Build the future of the Internet.

The Browser Company of New York is a group of friendly humans working to make the internet feel more like home again. But how?

The web browser is one of the most important tools we use — not just on our computers, but in our lives. The world is always changing, but our browsers just aren’t keeping up. We think it’s time to push the web browser forward again, which is why we built Arc and why we’re building Dia — browsers that aren't just faster, but also more personal, focused, creative… and maybe even more fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’d argue web browsers matter more than ever before. Here’s why we think they’re a worthwhile place to spend our time:

  • Everyone uses one. Over 5 billion people use web browsers every month. Your parents use a browser, your niece uses one, even your car has an internal browser. It’s the most ubiquitous piece of software in the world, and yet somehow it hasn’t really changed.
  • They power everything. The web browser is integral to everything we do online. It’s the new operating system — one place to work, learn, and ultimately live our lives online. This bet on browsers defined Arc, which now welcomes over a million weekly users across Mac, iOS, Windows, and Android.
  • They could be so much better. As the world enters a new era of computing, we believe we’re building something to help everyone meet that moment. That something is Dia — a familiar browser with AI built-in. You’ll know how to use it immediately, but it will reduce friction with powerful tools, right where you already browse.

While it’s true that startups can be risky, we feel pretty good about our odds. Here’s why:

  • Browsers are a trillion-dollar industry. It’s not a niche product. It’s something that just about everyone uses on a regular basis. Even if we only reach 1% of the browser market, we’ll have reached 100 million people.
  • We’re well-funded. We’re a Series B company, having raised $128 million so far with overall valuation of $550 million. And that money comes from people we trust, who have shaped the internet — our investors include founders from Instagram, Stripe, Twitter, Zoom, Figma, and LinkedIn.
  • Our founders have done this before. Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal are second-time founders who met straight out of college, founding a company called Branch Media that they sold to Facebook in 2014. They’ve been doing good work, together, for a long time.
  • We know what we’re doing. Today, our team includes industry leaders who were early employees at Instagram, Peloton, Pinterest, Tesla, Medium, Stripe, Cash App, Vimeo — along with the big browsers: Chrome, Safari, and Opera.
  • The Browser Company runs on heartfelt intensity. Our team is driven by relentless curiosity, humility in problem-solving, and collaboration as we imagine what could be. Early on, we laid it out in a piece called “Notes on Roadtrips” which still guides us to this day.

Building software is an opportunity to make people feel something. We move quickly while drawing inspiration from art and design to create products that are personal, meaningful, and ultimately human. Here’s how we work:

  • Driven by prototypes. Defined by craft. We test ideas in code, release quickly, and iterate based on member feedback. With Arc, we shipped new features every Thursday. With Dia, we plan to do the same. That rhythm keeps us nimble and helps ideas turn into real things, fast.
  • Six-week milestones and flexible pods. Every six weeks, we form cross-functional pods that disband and reconfigure based on our goals. These small teams move fast, make decisions independently, and explore bold ideas. This fosters a culture of ownership, mobility, and innovation. It also means work ships in weeks — not months or years.
  • Building in the open. Everyone sees what’s being built and helps shape where we go. If you have an idea, you’re encouraged to share it. All team members are welcome to participate in dogfooding, hackathons, and even product brainstorming. It’s a culture of trust, autonomy, and shared momentum.

They’re fantastic. People join us to do career-defining work, and find themselves in good company. Everyone on the team is kind, humble, passionate — traits that we look for in any new team member. We are:

  • Passionate human beings. The Browser Company is a company of thoughtful internet users, artists, craftspeople, technologists, and so much more.
  • Building for everyone. Browsers are for everyone, and our team should reflect that. We need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. We champion inclusive communities within our organization, embracing and empowering employees who identify as women, LGBTQIA+ and those from diverse racial and ethnic heritages.
  • Family first. Many of us are parents — both of human beings and pets — so we’ve made sure to cultivate an environment that’s friendly towards young families. That way, you don’t need to pick between career or family.
  • Open to share. The best way to get to know us is to hear directly from us. Go behind-the-scenes in these Linear interviews with Tara (Product Engineer) and Adena (Membership) or watch Nash and Karla’s talk about Leaving Fingerprints at Config 2024. No — we may be called The Browser Company of New York, but we’re a remote-friendly company. Approximately 60% of our employees live outside of New York, across six different time zones. Here’s how we make it work:

  • Seriously flexible hours. Morning person? Night owl? There’s a place for you. Our core working hours fall between 11 AM–2 PM EST, and they may shift depending on who you're working with. But we just want you to do your best work, however suits you best. Take breaks. Do your thing. We trust you.
  • A cozy Brooklyn office. If you live in New York (or want to visit), you’re welcome to our beautiful office in Williamsburg. Some of us come every day, others once a week. No obligation — we just genuinely like each other! Oh, and when you’re in the office, lunch is on us.
  • Meaningful meetups. We also host quarterly team gatherings and company-wide retreats to foster collaboration and creativity. We all work from anywhere, but we are intentional about building meaningful connections in person.
  • Your dream home office. All new hires receive a $1,500 stipend to help design their dream home office. Since things break and tastes change, you’ll also receive a refresher stipend every 2 years.

Our team should always feel supported to do their best work, and that’s reflected in both our compensation philosophy and our benefits. We offer:

  • Choose-your-own compensation. When we extend a job offer, we provide ranges, allowing candidates to choose an offer optimized for salary, an offer optimized for equity, or something in between.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness. We offer a benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision. We cover 100% of premiums for employees and up to 95% for dependents. Employees in the US also get free memberships to One Medical (where available), Talkspace, Teladoc, and HealthAdvocate.
  • Flexible vacation. There are no set limits for paid time off. Team members take an average of 15-20 days off per year, plus federal holidays based on your location and an end-of-year cooldown week. We offer flexible hours and paid time off because we believe people work best when they’ve rested.
  • Parental leave. We proudly offer all new parents a flexible 12 weeks of parental leave for birth, adoption, surrogacy, or fostering. Take the leave all at once, or split up days to transition back to work. Birthing parents also qualify for an additional 6 weeks of medical leave. Family comes first.
  • And everything else life throws your way... Whether it’s medical, caregiving, bereavement, or personal leave, we support our team through all of life’s moments.
